A military brat at heart, at home everywhere and nowhere, I've lived all over the eastern US and in Germany. I spent the better part of my not-so-angsty teenage years whiling away the days in Georgia, which has the best state song ever (no one can lay a hand on Ray Charles). I graduated from college with a degree in English literature, indicative, no doubt, of my very practical nature and my selfless desire to use my grammatic and syntactic skills to help the folks back home.

I have since wandered northward to the great white north of Canada, land of Tim Horton's and bagged milk. In my continued efforts to make the world a better place, I'm now a doctoral student in Medieval Studies. My impracticality astounds even me sometimes, but when time travel becomes a reality or the world is plunged into a not-so-luminous age, we shall see who has the upper hand.

"All of a sudden K blurted out that salvation or damnation of the soul was immaterial to him, that all that mattered to him was whether or not there was life after death. He said he didn't care if he went to heaven or hell, because neither could be more fearful than absolute nothingness; salvation and damnation were one and the same if the only thing out there was total nothingness. It was infantile logic, but it made sense. Anyway, in those days, this was what K kept thinking about." -- Kenzaburo Oe, A Quiet Life
